Applications are now open for the Creative Producer Indaba Fellowship 2020 for emerging African creative producers .
The Creative Producer Indaba is a year-long professional development programme offered by Realness Institute, in partnership with EAVE, International Film Festival Rotterdam’s IFFR Pro and the Sundance Institute.
We are searching for applicants looking to hone their leadership and entrepreneurial ability and build their creative skills.
We aim to select a well balanced group of 15 participants in total, including:
Producers (with and without projects) from Africa; producers from North America and Europe with an interest in co-producing with Africa,
as well as film professionals from other disciplines such as distribution, international sales, funding bodies, institutions, broadcasters and development executives with a stake in the African marketplace.
Applicants may apply with or without a project.
Candidates are required to have produced at least one feature fiction, a series or documentary film; or a minimum of two short films as lead producer or co-producer (executive producer, associate or line producer does not qualify).
Applicants may apply with a feature film, episodic or feature documentary project.
For documentary projects, we will require a treatment as well as 5-10 minutes of rushes, character introduction tapes or a sizzle real. Documentary projects are eligible at all stages of development or production.
Applicant must be the producer, not the director of the submitted project and must be available for CPI program dates below.
The programme is anchored by two gatherings, each consisting lasting seven days in residence.
Session 1: 9th to the 16th of September 2020 (Lamu, Kenya)
Session 2: 13th to the 20th of January 2021 (Rotterdam, The Netherlands)
Outcome: Creative Producer Indaba selected projects and respective producers will be matched with the most relevant African film market to present their incubated project. Choice of market will be determined after the Session 2.
Through plenary sessions, masterclasses, case studies and one-on-one meetings with assigned mentors, these sessions will address topics such as project development and planning, project financing, PR and marketing, strategic planning, advocacy and lobbying, organisational development, network management and leadership.
The participants’ work at these residencies is guided toward a package that consists of business and marketing plans and a script to be presented at a 3rd gathering at a film market in Africa in the second half of 2021.
Creative Producer Indaba is being financed through a fundraising campaign led by the partner nonprofit organizations.
Please note that we must reserve the right to modify or cancel the program should our fundraising goals not be met.
In this event, all submission fees will be reimbursed.
A 30 Euro application fee is required.
