Fursathon #FursaVsVirus Challenge 2020 for Kenya Youths
Embracing the theme of International Youth Day 2020, Youth Engagement for Global Action, the National Youth Council is organizing the #FursaVsVirus Challenge to create tech and non-tech solutions to some of the most pressing challenges posed by the novel coronavirus pandemic and for economic recovery afterwards. We are calling on the youth nationwide, problem solvers, creative minds, health experts, programmers, graphic and web designers to come together in a 72-hour collaborative digital process.
Following the #FursaVsVirus Challenge, the best solutions will be selected and will be fully implemented in collaboration with participating partners and sponsors.
The novel coronavirus outbreak has led to major social and economic disruption nationwide. #FursaVsVirus is creating an online platform in order to promote fast and innovative co-creation of solutions to help Kenya address some of the most pressing issues and engage the youth to participate in building a resilient nation.
How does the Challenge work?
The #FursaVsVirus Challenge will take place from July 1st – 12th August 2020 online and in the Youth Empowerment Centers (YECS) across the country. Participants will have 72hs Fursathon to collaborate in teams and build solutions to specific challenges. The Fursathon kick-off session will start on July 27th at 17:00 Local Time (GMT+3) and end on July 30th at 21:00 Local Tim (GMT+3). The culmination will happen on the 12th August 2020 during the International Youth Day Celebration.
There 3 winners per county and the top 47 winners from each county will further participate in a National challenge, where the top 3 solutions will be selected.

Participants (Youth 18-35):
We are calling on the youth nationwide, problem solvers, creative minds, health experts, programmers, graphic and web designers to come together in a collaborative process.
Mentors (No Age Limit):
Experts in certain areas are called to support teams with either content or technical expertise while developing solutions to the proposed challenges. Mentors will guide teams, answering questions and providing ideas.
Companies and organizations can either support the Fursathon through in-kind tech contributions to help develop ideas or to help facilitate the implementation of the Challenge.
The #FursaVsVirus Challenge welcomes the support of those who want to contribute with judging of the Solution. Experts in the areas covered by the Fursathon are welcome to participate as judges.
Moderators (No Age Limit):
Experts in the areas covered by the Fursathon with extensive expertise leading teams and coordinating groups can take part in the challenge as Moderators. Moderators will be responsible for keeping teams moving smoothly towards their goal.
The #FursaVsVirus Challenge welcomes the support of those who want to contribute with the implementation of the Challenge. Experienced project managers, communication specialists, and tech-savvy minds are all invited to participate.
