Nigeria Youth 4 Peace Initiative (NY4PI) Membership Application 2021
Apply to be a member of the Nigeria Youth 4 Peace Initiative (NY4PI). Individual membership is open to youths between the ages of 18 to 35 and organizational membership to groups working on the YPS agenda.
In December 2015, at its 7573rd meeting, the United Nations Security Council adopted Resolution 2250 which spotlighted the nexus between Youth, Peace and Security. This ground breaking resolution identified and emphasised the inclusion of youth in any peace and security architecture. It portrays youths as partners in preventing violence, countering violent extremism and building sustainable peace.
Nigeria is, no doubt, facing serious security challenges and breaches. These challenges range from terrorism to banditry, kidnapping, herders-farmers/community conflicts, communal clashes, cultism and street hooliganism, among others. These security breaches are not new, especially since return to civil rule in 1999.
Young people have been at the receiving end of these security challenges, both as agents and as victims. Given Nigeria’s huge youth population and the high rate of youth joblessness and poverty, it is not strange that young people will be affected more, both as actors and as victims, by the incessant insecurity in the country.
In recognition of the fact that young people are Nigeria’s most valuable resources, the Nigeria Youth 4 Peace Initiative (NY4PI) is a movement designed to mobilise, build capacity and empower young people across the country for conflict prevention and peacebuilding.
