SASSA r350 Grant latest News Today –  Social grants ensure that the most vulnerable members of South Africa’s population receive some financial support from the government.

These grants are distributed by the South African Social Security Agency (Sassa). Around 46% of the country’s population are beneficiaries of the social grants distributed by Sassa.

Sassa is now warning all Sassa grant recipients of potential scammers around the county aiming to get their hands on the money of beneficiaries.

Sassa spokesperson Paseka Letsatsi explains that no Sassa official will ever call or visit a grant recipient and require their personal information or their Sassa cards and PINs.

He said, “People do all sorts of things to defraud beneficiaries and I think the most beneficiaries from the South African Social Security Agency happen to be the most vulnerable people, frail, the elderly and I think people take advantage of that situation”.

Letsatsi says the agency is currently partnering with the media and visiting communities around the country to educate people on how Sassa officials perform their duties.

He added, “One of the most important things is that there is no such employee or a staff member who will pick up the phone and call a beneficiary and ask a beneficiary to give them the pin”.

Sassa beneficiaries are advised to call the toll free number should they have any questions related to the grants and services offered by the agency.

Sassa’s toll-free number is 0800 601 011.
