Deadline: 9 Dec. 2022
Delaware Community Foundation (DCF) Journalism Internship Program 2023
To have a healthy democracy and a thriving community, we need an engaged and informed citizenry. By strengthening local news we help all people access important information, share ideas in constructive ways, and elevate the voices and stories of underrepresented people.
Funded by the DCF and LJI, this program embeds college students who are aspiring journalists as reporting interns in Delaware news outlets. The goals of DCF Journalism Internship Program are to:
- Increase high-quality local news, which strengthens our democracy and civic engagement;
- Increase coverage of Delaware’s BIPOC (black, indigenous and people of color) and other historically underrepresented communities; and
- Increase the population of future journalists who have experience with and are committed to covering historically underrepresented communities, including BIPOC.
Apply by Dec. 9 for a paid, full-time summer internship at a Delaware newsroom!
Selected interns will work in Delaware newsrooms as reporting interns and receive extensive mentoring and coaching. Opportunities may include print journalism, broadcast, photojournalism and more, depending on students’ skills and interests and newsrooms’ needs.
This opportunity is for students who identify as members of a historically underrepresented community (BIPOC, LGBTQ+, disabled and more).
Interns will be paid $4,240 and work as reporters in one of several participating newsrooms. The 2023 newsrooms are not yet confirmed. Previous interns have worked at DelawareOnline/The News Journal, BayToBayNews/Delaware State News, WHYY and Delaware Public Media.
We welcome applications from college juniors, seniors and new graduates who are residents and/or students in Delaware or have other close connections to Delaware.
Please note that these are full-time, eight-week positions for the summer of 2023. Specific dates will be determined by the newsrooms and interns. Students must have full-time access to a vehicle during the internship. (Uber, Lyft and similar services are not suitable options.)
