About the role – Gloucestershire Police Force Control Room Call Handler Recruitment

As a Call Handler, you will be part of an inclusive team of professionals delivering an excellent service to the public.

You will work in an environment which changes from minute-to-minute. No two days will be the same as you ensure that the public feel valued; helping to build confidence in the police service. You will be dealing with emergency and non-emergency contact via a variety of channels.

Often callers can be distressed and in a time critical situation. You will need to take control, gain relevant information and make dynamic decisions whilst being empathetic, compassionate and supportive.

There are a variety of shift patterns for successful candidates; full time, part time, day shifts or late shifts. All shift patterns will be working 24/7 and includes bank holidays and weekends.

Pay

Full-time FCR Call Handlers receive a 32.06% shift allowance on top of their basic full time salary of £21,837 – £24,156 (pro-rata for part-time positions). Shift allowance commences after the completion of the initial training course when the successful applicants start working the 24/7 shift pattern.

Who can Apply – Gloucestershire Police Force Control Room Call Handler Recruitment

Being a people person, having first class communication skills, treating people with dignity and respect as well as having the ability to handle complex and sometimes volatile situations are the key attributes for a Force Control Room Call Handler. To apply for one of our Force Control Room Call Handler, you’ll also need to:

  • Be 18-years-old or over
  • Have four GCSE’s at C or above (including Maths and English) or transferable equivalents
  • Be computer literate
  • Have effective communication skills
  • Ability to work under pressure
  • Disciplined approach to work
  • Ability to manage people and information
  • Ability to use own initiative
  • A flexible attitude to working and shift rostering

Please note that successful candidates will be required to attend an 8 week training programme at our training venue, predominantly at the Sabrina Centre in Berkeley with some variations, to equip them with all of the skills they’ll need for the role. Training will be full time Monday to Friday for all roles, including part time roles.

Shift patterns

There are four working patterns available as a Gloucestershire Constabulary Call Handler. The patterns include full time, part time, day shifts (part time) or late shifts (part time). All shift patterns work a 24/7 rota and this includes bank holidays and weekends.
