Students can apply for the University of Geneva Excellence Masters Fellowship if they wish to study environmental science in Switzerland.. The Faculty of Science, with the support of external partners, has established an Excellence Fellowship program open to outstanding and highly motivated students who wish to pursue a Master of Science degree in one of the disciplines covered by the Faculty1. Candidate selection is based on excellence.

The Excellence Fellowship consists of a grant amounting to CHF 10’000 to CHF 15’000/year (no teaching duties); it is awarded for one year and extended for the regular duration of the chosen Master’s program (three or four semesters) provided the applicant is academically successful at the end of his/her first semester of studies.

Regardless of your home university, whether you have passed or are doing a brilliant bachelor degree, and that you are one of the best in your year2, this program is for you! You must meet the admission criteria of the Master of your choice3 and be selected on the basis of the application file for an Excellence Fellowship.

2. The Future Global Leaders Scholarship

Eligible candidates may apply directly to the Fortis Society. All applicants are screened based on their potential to become prominent global leaders in their fields and their history of proactively creating positive change.

Applications are screened by Fortis Members, and qualified candidates may be invited for a virtual interview. The Cooptation Circle leads the admissions process and votes on the top candidates to be inducted into the Fortis Society.


Fortis Society applicants:
  • Have completed an impressive undergraduate degree on full scholarship or grants, and/or have accumulated notable work experience;*

  • Come from humble beginnings or have demonstrated resilience in overcoming hardship (low-income family, first in family to attain higher education, migrant, etc.);

  • Proven record of professional success (entrepreneurship, activism, etc.), which demonstrates high potential for having a large-scale positive influence.

Successful candidates must provide a demonstrated track record of:

  • Empathy and altruism;

  • Resilience and strength of character;

  • Excellence in their professional endeavors;

  • Boundless ambition;

  • Clear vision and pragmatic strategy to achieve their goals.

3. Stipendium Hungaricum scholarship programme

The Hungarian Government established the Stipendium Hungaricum scholarship programme to promote the internationalisation of Hungarian higher education and to attract top international students from all around the world who can establish personal and professional links to Hungary while enjoying high-quality education in the heart of Europe.

4. Japanese Government (Monbukagakusho: MEXT) Scholarship
