Beware of Expanded Public Works Programme (EPWP) Scam – City of Tshwane Warns
City of Tshwane urges residents to be on the lookout for a scam involving Expanded Public Works Programme application forms.
The City of Tshwane would like to notify residents to be on alert regarding a possible scam by criminally inclined individuals who are fraudulently selling Expanded Public Works Programme (EPWP) application forms and contracts of employment.
The City would like to make it unreservedly clear to Tshwane residents that EPWP application forms are not for sale as they are issued free of charge to applicants.
Once interested persons have applied to be enlisted on the City’s EPWP database, the City uses a lottery system which randomly selects participants for various short-term employment opportunities within the City. All of this is at no cost to the applicant.
Eligibility to work in the City’s EPWP is only available to persons selected through the lottery system. Persons selected through this system are subsequently contacted by City officials, and allowed to sign contracts and report for duty.
Registration on the EPWP database remains open. Jobseekers must be between the ages of 18 and 60, and they should bring along a certified copy of their identity document and proof of residence, which must be attached to the registration form.
The registration forms are currently available at the EPWP Division, Office 003, Ou Raadsaal Building, Church Square, Pretoria CBD. Registration is open on Monday to Friday from 0800 to 1600.
Jobseekers are cautioned not to fall victim to this scam and to contact the City of Tshwane whenever they come across anyone selling EPWP application forms.
