ESKOM Loadshedding Expected After The Long Weekend
eskom news- Eskom warns of the possibility of loadshedding after the Easter weekend, due to power constraints. According to Eskom, the implementation of loadshedding is expected to take place next week as the electricity demand may increase.
On Wednesday 13 April 2022, a unit at Kusile and Kendal power stations tripped. The Kusile unit returned to service on Thursday morning, together with one of the previously delayed Camden power station units.
Eskom stated that they would undertake opportunity maintenance during the long weekend to address some risks on running units.
During the weekend, Eskom will release water into the river system from the Ingula Pumped Storage Scheme to relieve the capacity constraints that have been created by the heavy rains.
Currently, 6 042MW are on planned maintenance, while another 14 471MW of capacity is unavailable due to unplanned breakdowns.
Eskom has announced that any further deterioration in generation capacity may require further loadshedding. Therefore, the public is requested to continue to use electricity sparingly.
The public is especially reminded to use electricity wisely during the long weekend to help replenish the emergency generation reserves in anticipation of the coming week.
Eskom has extended its apologies to the public for the implementation of loadshedding and they have stated that loadshedding is only implemented as a last resort to protect the national grid.
