Extension of R350 Social Relief of Distress Grant Welcomed – Black Sash
The statement was made in Cape Town, during the Mid-Term Budget delivered by Finance Minister Enoch Godongwana. The grant has been extended until March of 2024.
The minister has cautioned it’s a game of trade-offs, and he is still mulling over whether he can increase other social grants.
According to Black Sash, Grants are not a favor, that so many people rely on this grant for their daily needs, it is a life line for majority of south Africans . They think the Minister is not considering the fact that it is a constitutional obligation on the government to ensure comprehensive social security and that the statement the Minister made is quite manipulative, trying to pit grants against each other.
The civil rights organization has cautioned the minister saying why cant the trade offs be against all the money that has been lost in corruption.
