Gauteng GDE 2024 Online Admission Application Now Closed
The Gauteng Department of Education (GDE) 2024 online admission applications period for Grades 1 and 8 has officially closed.
The department has cautioned that no new applications will be accepted once the application period has ended. The application period was initially scheduled to close on 14 July but was extended to Friday, 21 July 2023.
As of Thursday, 20 July 2023 a total of 724 202 applications were successfully submitted, 310 994 for Grade 1 and 413 208 for Grade 8.
Parents and guardians who have already applied are reminded that all documents must be submitted or uploaded by 12:00 noon on 28 July 2023.
Those who have not submitted the outstanding documents by the mentioned date will have their applications considered incomplete and will forfeit the opportunity of receiving placement once the placement period begins.
“Upon successful completion of an application online, and once all documents have been verified, applicants must wait to receive placement offers.
“The placement period will start on 4 September 2023, where placement offers will be sent out to parents and guardians with complete applications via SMS,” said MEC Chiloane.
The GDE has warned applicants to refrain from submitting fraudulent documents as schools have systems to verify such.
This will result in the applicant forfeiting the right to their preferential placement at a school.
“We would like to provide clarification regarding the placement process. It is important to note that not all applicants will receive an immediate SMS with a placement offer on the first day of the placement period, which begins on 4 September.
“However, placement offers will be consistently sent out to applicants throughout the entire placement period until all learners are successfully placed. We strongly encourage parents to submit or upload their documents before the deadline of 28 July to ensure eligibility for placement,” he said.
The Department has identified a number of high-pressure areas where schools received an overwhelming number of applications which exceed the capacity of learners that they can afford to accommodate.
“We understand that high-pressure schools may experience significant demand, making this a challenging period. Therefore, we kindly request patience and understanding from applicants as we work diligently to place all learners,” added Chiloane
