GDE Concerned Over Learners Stabbing At Qalabotjha School

The Gauteng Department Education is concerned by an incident that occurred on Thursday, 17 November 2022, at Qalabotjha Secondary School in Vlakfontein where a Grade 11 boy learner was fatally stabbed.

According to information at our disposal, a fight allegedly broke out between a group of boys in the afternoon outside the school. Unfortunately, the said learner was allegedly stabbed in the chest during the fight.

The learner was subsequently rushed to a nearby clinic. Unfortunately, the learner succumbed to his injuries as he was receiving medical attention.

We implore the community to not disrupt schooling and teaching as our Grade 12 learners are still in the process of writing their final exams.

Police are investigating circumstances surrounding this incident. The fight is suspected to be related to gangsterism.
Our psychosocial team will tomorrow on Friday, 18 November 2022, visit the school to provide necessary support and counselling.

We wish to convey our sincerest condolences to the learner’s family and the school community at large.
