HEC GRE (General) Training Under US-Pakistan Knowledge Corridor

​​​​In June 2015 the United States and Pakistan established an Education, Science and Technology Working Group (ESTWG) under the Bilateral Strategic Dialogue discussed the proposal during the meeting of Prime Minister of Pakistan and President of USA to establish US-Pakistan Knowledge Corridor. Both the dignitaries directed their respective governments to intensify their cooperation in this important framework to achieve the ambitious priority targets of developing high-level human capital envisioned in Pakistan’s policy document Vision 2025.

According to the Plan, ten thousand (10,000) Pakistani scholars will join US universities in the next ten years as an effort of the Government of Pakistan to train its faculty resources in identified subject areas.

Phase – 1 of the plan approved by ECNEC on Jan 25, 2017, and revised later in August 2020 envisions to award 1000 Ph.D. scholarships to outstanding Pakistani students in US Universities under the project titled “PhD Scholarships under US – Pak Knowledge Corridor-Phase -1 (Revised)”

The main objectives of the project are:

  • To significantly increase the number and quality of faculty in Higher Education Institutions (HEI’s).
  • To enhance the research and academic capacity of the Higher Education Institutions of Pakistan by providing trained manpower who will improve the quality of instruction and innovative research.
  • To train approximately 1,000 potential applicants annually for university entrance exams such as  GRE and TOEFL/IELTS under the “Talent Farming component” of the project.
  • The program will develop a collaboration between Pakistani and renowned US institutions to transfer new research techniques focused on Pakistani needs.

Scholarship categories:

Category I – Scholarship (Top 50 QS World Ranked US Universities):

For this category of scholarship, prospective applicants must have:​

  1. Secured admission in top 50 QS World Ranked US University.
  2. Valid GRE – General Score (Minimum 300 in total) OR HAT Score (Minimum 60% Score)​

Category II -Scholarship (Top 300 QS World Ranked US Universities):

For this category of scholarship, prospective applicant must have:

  1. Secured admission in top 300 QS World Ranked US University.
  2. Valid GRE – General Score (Minimum 300 in total) OR HAT Score (Minimum 60% Score). However, GRE – General or HAT Score is not required where admission is secured with complete tuition waiver​.​

Financial assistance available under each scholarship category?

  • Category I– Scholarship (QS 1- 50)
  1. Tuition Cost                             Fully Funded
  2. Annual Stipend                       USD 19,200/-
  3. Annual Health Insurance      USD 2,000/- (or actual, whichever is lower)
  4. Return Airfare                         PKR 250,000/-
    Category – II Scholarship (QS 51-300)
  1. Annual Tuition Cost               Up to USD 12,000/-
  2. Annual Stipend                       USD 19,200/-
  3. Annual Health Insurance      USD 2,000/- (or actual, whichever is lower)
  4. Return Airfare                         PKR 250,000/-

Which documents are required to get Provisional Award Letter (PAL)?

  • At minimum, following documents are required to process application for PAL:
  • Admission letter and tuition waiver letter
  • Copies of all academic documents, duly attested by gazetted officer
  • Copy of CNIC, Domicile and Passport, duly attested by gazetted officer
  • Contact details of university graduate school and Advisor/Supervisor (Email IDs).
  • Employment certificate/experience certificate, where required.

Eligibility Criteria – HEC GRE (General) Training Under US-Pakistan Knowledge Corridor

​​Those who satisfy all the following requirements are eligible to apply:

General Eligibility Criteria:

  • Pakistani/AJK nationals
  • Minimum 4 years bachelor’s degree (B.S/B.Sc./B.E/16 years formal education)
  • No 2nd or 3rd Division in entire academic career is acceptable for both Category – I & II.
  • Maximum age on the closing date shall not exceed:​
  • 40 Years i​n case of regular Government Employees/regular Faculty members of Public Sector
  • Universities & Government Colleges/regular Researchers of approved R & D Organizations
  • 35 Years in all other cases
  • Must not be availing any other Scholarship.
  • Those having PhD Degree are not eligible.

Specific Eligibility Criteria:
Category I – Scholarship (Top 50 QS World Ranked US Universities):
For this category of scholarship, prospective applicant must have:

Secured admission in top 50 QS World Ranked US University.
Valid GRE – General Score (Minimum 300 in total) OR HAT Score (Minimum 60% Score)
Category II -Scholarship (Top 300 QS World Ranked US Universities):
For this category of scholarship, prospective applicant must have:

a. Secured admission in top 300 (51-300) QS World Ranked US University (overall ranking). In case of QS Subject wise Ranking, must have secured admission in top 100 (51-100) universities.

b. Valid GRE – General Score (Minimum 300 in total) OR HAT Score (Minimum 60% Score). However, GRE – General or HAT Score is not required in case admission is secured with complete tuition waiver.

 

HOW TO APPLY

​HEC provides opportunities for applicants to pursue PhD studies in Top US Universities under “US-Pakistan Knowledge Corridor”.  Interested applicants can apply online through the link:
New User Registration:
To Login please visit https://scholarships.hec.gov.pk/ 
To create profile for first time user, fill in the available form on the link mentioned above.Click on ‘Register’ for new users and follow the steps stated below:
  • You will be required to create user ID by using your CNIC (without dashes) as User ID and select your password.
  • Create an Account and fill the required information available on the screen.
  • Click and obtain ‘Mobile Code’ on your provided mobile no. for further process. (Currently, MNC / Ported numbers are not supported)
  • After receiving code on your mobile enter the code.
  • Enter your email ID and click Send Code. You will receive a code on your provided email.
  • Please enter a valid email ID.
  • Perform code verification and click on submission.
  • You will be registered successfully. Please check your email for further information.
  • You will be required enter your created ‘User ID’ & ‘Password’ then ‘Sign in’ on HEC portal.
  • Complete online profile section wise at https://scholarships.hec.gov.pk/ 
  • Click ‘Scholarships and Grants’ on left ‘Navigation’ and then ‘US-PAK Knowledge Corridor Application’. 
  • Now follow instructions, fill and submit the form successfully.
  • Please send scanned copies of application form along with other required documents on the email address [email protected]. Documents should be attested by gazetted officer of Grade-17/above.
  • At this stage you are not required to submit hard copies of this application and other documents. You may be asked to submit hard copies later, when required.

IMPORTANT:

  1. All applicants will be required to show commitment to serve in Pakistan after completion of studies
  2. The grant will be offered for a maximum period of 5 years.
  3. HEC attested documents are not required at the time of application submission. Those who are shortlisted will be asked to submit the HEC attested documents later. Applicants are advised to download the filled application form for record purpose.
  4. Misstatement/ misrepresentation of information in the application form can lead to disqualification/ cancellation of the scholarship award at any stage of the program.
