Kimoyo Fellowship 2020 Program for aspiring Nigerian Designers (funded)

Applications for the Inaugural Kimoyo Fellowship for Nigerians is now open. The program is designed to transition aspiring designers in Nigeria into active professional roles in the UI/ UX design industry.

Kimoyo Fellowship – a formal design program teaching the foundational skill set required to become a UI/UX designer at Africa’s leading tech companies.

What’s expected of Kimoyo Fellows:

  • Full time commitment for 3 months. This program cannot be completed part time, it is a bootcamp meant to be done without any distractions.

  • Self discipline & motivation. Given the current COVID-19 pandemic, the entirety of this program will be remote. Therefore, fellows are expected to have the self discipline and motivation to complete tasks and assignments on their own. (With the support of other fellows and mentors of course!)

  • Repay training costs either by working on Kimoyo approved freelance projects, or income from a full time role secured after the program.

  • Professional UI/UX portfolio, featuring the work completed during the fellowship

Who should apply:

  • Graphic designers

  • Visual designers

  • You’ve done conceptual design work/exercises but have zero to limited real world experience

  • You’re looking to up-level your beginner skills

  • You have an understanding of Figma and/or Sketch

  • You have a portfolio or link to examples of your current work

  • You can spend 3 months full time learning and applying design principles

  • You are based in Nigeria

  • You’re ready to become a full time Ul/UX designer…like yesterday.

If selected, you will receive the following throughout the program:

  1. Weekly personal mentorship from top design leaders across Nigeria & the US

  2. A daily stipend to cover food & transportation

  3. Internet data

  4. Access to design tools & programs (such as Figma)

Our model is built on the following pillars:
