Malawi 2022/2023 Merit Based Public Universities Selection

Malawi 2022/2023 Merit Based Public Universities Selection Full list

The Ministry of Education wishes to inform the general public that the 2022/2023 harmonized merit-based public universities selection exercise coordinated by the National Council for Higher Education (NCHE) has been successfully completed. Consequently, the six (6) public universities have today, 18th July 2023, released the selection results. 

These are Kamuzu University of Health Sciences (KUHeS); Lilongwe University of Agriculture and Natural Resources (LUANAR); Malawi University of Business and Applied Sciences (MUBAS); Malawi University of Science and Technology (MUST): Mzuzu University (MZUNI); and University of Malawi (UNIMA).

At its Meeting held on 12th July, 2023, Malawi University of Business and Applied Sciences (MUBAS) Council approved the admission of 1,779 candidates into the various programmes of the University.

The MUBAS Council and Management would like to congratulate all candidates who have been admitted into its dynamic undergraduate programmes and wish them the best.

The 2023/2024 academic year shall commence in January 2024 and the specific dates will be communicated in due course. Admission letters will be sent to the individual contact addresses that were indicated on the application form.

For further information please contact the Registrar’s office through the following email address: [email protected] NCHE will receive queries regarding the selection in writing from 19th July, to Tuesday, 9th August, 2023. 

A consolidated list of the candidates selected to the six public universities can be found on the NCHE website: www.nche.ac.mw. The results can also be accessed from the following respective public universities’ websites.

The final figure for 2023 selection will be higher when special needs students and students selected through other modes are added. Special needs students are currently under consideration by the universities, a process that involves medical examination. These are automatically admitted as long as they meet the minimum entry requirement of six (6) credits including English. Universities will be recruiting additional students under Open Distance eLearning (ODeL), Economic Fee Paying, and Mature Entry modes of selection. The public may further wish to note that candidates are given three (3) weeks to present queries, if any, through NCHE.
