The past two years of the pandemic have been rough for the education sector, as this negatively impacted the learning experience of some learners and has resulted in matric results that a number of students from the class of 2021 wish to improve.

The Department of Basic Education (DBE) has an opportunity for those who need to improve their 2021 matric results or couldn’t sit for the exam due to unforeseen circumstances.

It is advised that candidates must have completed their SBA tasks, practical assessment and tasks, and the language oral marks in the previous October/November examination period.

This is an opportunity for the learners to rewrite their matric in the May/June 2022 supplementary examinations.

Who qualifies to rewrite their matric exam?

  1. All candidates who registered for the October/November examinations as of 2008 may register.
  2. Candidates who have written their October/November 2021 exam.
  3. Candidates who were absent from an examination with a valid reason (illness, death of an immediate family member, or other special reasons) You will need to provide proof and relevant documentation to your school principal where the registration form is submitted.
  4. If a candidate missed one question paper for a particular subject, they will be required to complete all the question papers for that particular subject.
  5. If an irregularity is being investigated in relation to your marks, provisional enrollment can be granted pending the outcome of the investigation.

The department has learning resources that learners can use when revising. In order to access the learning material, click HERE.

If you qualify and want to write your matric, you may register manually at any provincial education office (which includes the provincial head office, the district office, or a circuit office) or online on www.eservices.gov.za.

The closing date for candidates to apply is 18 February 2022.
