Nahshon Wright, Kelvin Joseph On Opposite Trajectories for Cowboys

Fans of the Dallas Cowboys organization were outraged after their team selected Nahshon Wright with the 99th overall choice in the 2021 NFL Draft. Wright was widely considered to be the worst pick in the draft and a true “reach.”

Kelvin When Joseph was picked 55 spots earlier, he didn’t inspire nearly as much hate as he does now. Despite his obvious flaws, Joseph was considered a top cornerback draft prospect with “boom” potential. No one could see anything but “bust” for Wright in the future. Wow, how quickly things can alter.

Wright is progressing into a starting role, while Joseph is on the verge of losing his game-day active status over two years into each of their individual professional careers.

How long do you think it will be before the Cowboys finally take Kelvin Joseph out of the game? The Cowboys can ill afford a repeat performance from him, since he has developed a habit of getting flagged. picture: lmQnA7PUvm

This is Reid D. Hanson, signing off on Twitter on December 30, 2022.

Even though he had a promising offseason and training camp, Joseph started the season on the bench as a special teams player and a possibility for the future. Despite being thrust into the starting defensive lineup due to injuries to Jourdan Lewis and Anthony Brown, Joseph failed to impress.

Joseph was replaced by the much-maligned Wright after he gave up 219 yards passing, 4 touchdowns, 66.7 percent completion, and 147.9 passer rating.

Wright has not been perfect, but he is improving and has already made his first career interception. Wright has displayed field awareness and a willingness to take on the run.

Trevon Diggs said the atmosphere on the Cowboys’ sideline following Nahshon Wright’s first career interception was “very electric.”

“He tried to throw away his first interception ball,” Tre said to @Kyle Youmans. I picked it up for him and said, “Here, you might want to hold onto this.” pic.twitter.com/hwRJxLD9no

Wright isn’t the Cowboys’ long-term answer at CB2, but he’s the best option right now as Dallas tries to make the playoffs.

Conversely, Joseph has become such a risk that he may no longer even be useful on special teams. Two weeks remain until the playoffs begin, and every mistake might prove costly.

Although anything can happen to these two young cornerbacks in the future, for the time being they are headed in quite different directions and the drama is unfolding far differently than anyone could have predicted.
