NSFAS Application 2022 Process for South Africa (SA) Youths

Students are now able to apply for NSFAS funding for the 2022 academic year. Scroll down to find out what the application process entails.

The National Students Financial Aid Scheme (NSFAS) has opened its application process for the 2022 academic year.

NSFAS aims to provide financial support to disadvantaged students, who wish to study at public universities or TVET colleges.

The bursary is available to all South African citizens, SASSA grant beneficiaries, those with a combined household income of R350 000 or less per annum, persons with disability with a combined household income of no more than R600 000 per annum, and students who began studying before 2018 whose household income is less than R122 000 per annum.

Successful applicants receive the following funding:

  • Accommodation fees
  • Transport fees
  • Living allowance
  • Book Allowance
  • Incidental/personal care allowance.

Interested students are reminded that they may apply even if they did not receive placement at a Higher Education Institution yet.

First applicants will need to register for a myNSFAS account and complete their application form online.

Students will need to submit the following documents with the application:

  • Copy of Identity Document (ID)
  • Proof of income
  • Disability Annexure A Form, if applicable.

Applications are set to close on 7 January 2022.
