NSFAS CONDEMNS ACTS OF VIOLENCE AND DISRUPTIONS AT CAMPUSES
The National Student Financial Aid Scheme (NSFAS) is deeply concerned about the alarming incidents of violence and the persistent incitement of violence directed towards the officials who have been deployed to various institutions in facilitating the transition of NSFAS beneficiaries to the direct payment solution. These reprehensible acts are completely unacceptable and NSFAS will explore all avenues available to ensure the assailants are held accountable.
The deployed officials play a crucial role in ensuring that deserving students receive their allowances; it is therefore disheartening to see that some individuals are engaging in such acts, which not only endanger the safety of the officials and students but also disrupt the smooth implementation of the NSFAS Direct Payment Solution. In one particular video, it is an SRC president of an institution that is inciting students to commit violent and criminal acts, the video will be shared with law enforcement.
NSFAS wishes to categorically state that it will not tolerate any form of harm or intimidation towards its officials.
The scheme is working closely with law enforcement agencies and relevant authorities to identify and apprehend those responsible for these heinous crimes. NSFAS is determined to bring them to justice and ensure that they face the full might of the law.
In addition to addressing the immediate security concerns, NSFAS is actively engaging with stakeholders, including institutions and student representative bodies, to find long-term solutions to prevent such incidents from occurring in the future. Collaborative efforts are being made to promote a culture of respect, constructive dialogue, and peaceful resolution of any issues or grievances that may arise during the implementation of new initiatives.
The scheme remains committed to proving financial aid to deserving students while also ensuring a safe and conducive environment for its officials.
