Sassa has thus made it clear that those who are receiving social grants and would like to have their money deposited into a bank account of their own must present certain proof of identity. The necessary paperwork, according to the agency, is as follows:
Identity documents, including a government-issued photo ID, and bank statements showing the client’s name and account number for the past three months.
All recipients of social grants with the exception of those receiving the Social Relief of Distress grant will be subject to the new regulations.
The new system will allow recipients more freedom and convenience by eliminating the requirement to travel to certain locations to make payments.
Sassa has also asked recipients to be as transparent as possible when updating their payment information. Payment processing times may be extended if supporting documentation are missing.
