Sassa Announces Changes To R350 Grants Collection
Sassa announced that from Wednesday 11 May beneficiaries would not be able to receive their social grants from their usual pay points. Sassa’s spokesperson has more to say about this.
The South African Social Security Agency (Sassa) stated that cash pay points at which beneficiaries usually receive their payments would not be serviced.
The agency announced that it is as a result of challenges beyond its control, which includes the Post Office.
According to Sassa’s spokesperson Paseka Letsatsi, the Post Office is experiencing some financial flow issues and, therefore, Sassa has implemented contingency measures to ensure that beneficiaries receive their grants.
Grant recipients are, therefore, encouraged not to visit any Post Office branch to try to collect their grant payments. Beneficiaries may collect their payments from USave, Checkers or PicknPay.
Letsatsi believes that by using these alternative methods, beneficiaries won’t have to wait outside pay points in long queues.
Beneficiaries are reassured that swiping their Sassa cards at any of these supermarkets will not have additional costs, so they will be able to use every cent provided to them.
Letsatsi stated that Sassa will be engaging with the Post Office and other stakeholders to determine when beneficiaries will be able to collect their payments from the Post Office again.
