SASSA News – Gold Card Withdrawal Suspended for December
– In most cases, those who receive social grants receive their funds at the beginning of each month.
Unfortunately, this month’s withdrawals have been changed, which will have an adverse effect on people who use the gold payment card that Postbank has supplied to them.
Social grants were expected to begin being distributed by the South African Social Security Agency (Sassa) in the first week of December 2022, with the elderly getting their monthly payments first.
During the month of December, customers who use the gold Sassa cards supplied by Postbank cannot withdraw money from ATMs.
Postbank understands that the beneficiaries of the grants would be affected by the shift in payment methods, and the bank has issued an apology.
Postbank issued the following statement:
Customers with gold SASSA cards should withdraw their benefits from participating retailers.
Sassa recipients using Postbank-issued Sassa gold cards can access their social grant funds at any participating retail location that accepts cashback transactions, including Shoprite, Checkers, Usave, Pick ‘n Pay, and Boxer.
Recipients of Sassa grants can use their Sassa gold cards just like any other debit card, at any store that takes credit cards.
Since the beginning of the December payments, a rise in systematic crimes relating to ATM card fraud on Postbank payments has been seen, prompting the decision to cease payments.
Postbank has told its customers that professionals have been appointed to deal with this situation, and that significant work has been achieved in closing down all channels exploited by these crooks.
The bank encountered some difficulties a few months ago that made it difficult to withdraw grants.
