In todays latest SASSA News – The January 2023 installments of social benefits will be dispersed by the South African Social Security Agency (SASSA) as planned, beginning on January 3.
SASSA issued a statement on Thursday advising customers to use any of several accessible methods to withdraw money. Retail and automated teller machine use are examples.
The SASSA gold card can still be used by those receiving social grants, just like it always has. Shoprite, Checkers, U-save, Pick ‘n Pay, and Boxer are just few of the retailers across the country that accept the card because of its cashback feature.
Financial assistance for seniors will be distributed on January 3rd, followed by disability and child support payments on January 4th and 5th, respectively (Thursday, 05 January). Just to be clear, if the second of the month comes on a weekend or a holiday, the payment will be made the following business day,” SASSA added.
As the holiday season comes to a close, SASSA urged beneficiaries to be on guard against fraudsters, thieves, and false information.
Customers do a wide variety of transactions on the days that grants are dispersed.
To that end, SASSA advises its customers to be cautious when claiming their social benefits. As an example:
- Don’t carry about a lot of money, and instead use your cards for all your purchases.
- Make sure they get their card back after each purchase.
- Giving those who are elderly, sick, or disabled priority in line.
SASSA recommends that anyone applying for the R350 COVID-19 Social Relief of Distress Grant double-check and, if necessary, amend their banking information on the website. Throughout the month of January, SASSA will keep a close eye on payments to ensure that social grants are distributed correctly.
