SASSA News- Sassa Experience Issues With Grant Appeals
SASSA News – Many Sassa applicants who have submitted grant appeals have asked why they have been experiencing delays with the process, here is what Sassa says the cause of the delays are.
Individuals who have applied for the R350 Social Relief of Distress (SRD) grant from the South African Social Security Agency (Sassa) but felt they were unfairly declined are encouraged to submit a R350 grant appeal, within 30 days of when their rejection status was made available to them.
Applicants who have already submitted their appeals have questioned why they have experienced delays in terms of responses from Sassa.
Sassa responded to one applicant via social media saying:
With regards to appeals, we have struggled a bit with the systems in line with legislative requirements such as the POPI act. However soon those will be approved and resolved,
Sassa spokesperson Paseka Letsatsi explained that when Sassa tries to engage with banks the aganecy is told that no information of an individual can be shared otherwise they would be violating legislation.
“The banks will tell you that we cannot give you any information of an individual we’ll be violating the legislation, however we think we are getting very close to each other in the banks and other stakeholders to make sure that those who made an appeal are paid.” said Letsatsi.
Thus, Sassa has experienced delays processing grant appeals as they have had to make sure that they comply with the Protection of Personal Information (POPI) Act.
Applicants are encouraged to remain patient as the agency is doing all it can to ensure that Sassa grant payments are made to those in need of them.
