SASSA News- Take Advantage of Other Grant Collection Method
In todays latest SASSA News – Following the recent extension of the Social Relief of Distress grant, the South African Social Security Agency (Sassa) has said that it is prepared to disburse the cycle of the grant but has advised recipients to take advantage of other collection methods.
More than 10 million South Africans have benefited from the Social Relief of Distress (SRD) grant since it was first introduced. President Cyril Ramaphosa recently announced that the grant would be extended for an additional year.
Out of the total, approximately 3 million applications were rejected. This group can challenge the outcome of their application by applying for reconsideration through Sassa’s appeals process.
Sassa spokesperson, Paseka Letsatsi stated that they expect the Minister of Social Development to make the regulations in terms of how the extension will proceed by the end of March.
Letsatsi also said that they have advised SRD grant recipients to provide their bank details to enable to recipients to collect their SRD grant payments through their bank account as a better alternative to queuing at the Post Office.
Sassa also admitted that there is room for improvement in terms of how grants are administered and that this will be sorted after further consultation with various other stakeholders.
He further points out that Sassa will embark on various inactive gatherings in an effort to engage communities for feedback on how the system can be improved.
Sassa expects these stakeholder engagements to materialize soon and they have also made efforts to ensure that there are irregularities going forward.
