Uber Eats And Gauteng Department Partnership To Create Thousands of Jobs


The Gauteng Department of Economic Development has concluded a groundbreaking Strategic Partnership with Uber Eats South Africa, the partnership is meant to unlock several opportunities as well as create direct jobs for the youth in the province.

This partnership unlocks e-commerce market access opportunities for township products thereby enabling these enterprises to reach markets beyond the confines of their communities. Secondly, the partnership will also unlock direct Last Mile Delivery employment opportunities for fleet managers as well as direct employment for the youth.

In total UberEats SA will be investing more than R200 million in partnership with Gauteng Department of Economic Development, this will open opportunities such as:

a. Expanding township ecommerce footprint, to continue support the growth of township economies and unlock inherent potential due to demographic youth dividend.

b. Access to new opportunities through participation in the digital economy & logistics.

c. Focus on creating job opportunities through merchant & driver partnerships.

d. Driving safety as a strategic priority.

In addition to other secured demand in the market, UberEats SA partnership will directly contribute the following over the duration of the agreement:

a. Recruit and contract 2000 motorbike drivers.

b. Identify and onboard 2 000 township merchants.

c. Identify and onboard 2 000 township licensed liquor traders.

d. Access to tools of trade.
