University of the Free State (UFS) Honours Bursary 2023

The University of the Free State will be providing financial support (partial tuition fee) to honours students for the year 2023.UFS Honours Bursary 2023. The UFS Honours Bursary is a once-off award for first-time honours students studying full time in 2023.

Important to note:

  • The UFS Honours Bursary is a once-off award for first-time honours students studying full time in 2023.
  • The bursary is awarded on academic merit.
  • The holder of the bursary may not be a recipient of any government bursary/scholarship (e.g. the NRF).
  • The holder of the bursary may not be a recipient of the UFS Staff Study Benefit/ Remission on Tuition Fees.
  • The award cannot be used to pay off outstanding fees from previous years.
  • Complying with minimum eligibility criteria does not guarantee successful application; bursaries are awarded on academic merit and availability of funds.
  • UFS Honours Bursary holders must attend the Centre for Graduate Support Research Capacity Development workshops.

Who can apply for University of the Free State (UFS) Honours Bursary 2023

• All South African and international students.
• Full time honours students.
• Applicants must have obtained an aggregate of at least 65% for their undergraduate studies.
• Applicants must have obtained their undergraduate degree in the minimum prescribed period.

Who is not eligible

• Students who already hold an honours or final year B Tech degree;
• Students registered for their second year of honours degree;
• Students pursuing an undergraduate degree irrespective of the degree for which they are enrolled;
• Students intending to pursue a Postgraduate Diploma qualification, including Postgraduate Certificate in Education (PGCE) and Postgraduate Diploma in Accounting; Students who received funding from the Centre for Graduate Support in the previous years; and
• Students who hold employment positions.

What is required

  • Official academic record indicating that the undergraduate qualification has been obtained.
  • Applicants (including international students) who did not obtain their undergraduate
    degrees at the University of the Free State must submit an academic record that shows
    final marks in percentages and not symbols.
  • Applicants who obtained their undergraduate degrees at the University of the Free State
    must not submit their academic records. The Centre for Graduate Support will access their
    academic records from the university.
  •  It is the responsibility of each applicant to request from their previous institution an official
    academic record/transcript displaying their final marks in percentages and not symbols.

• Complete the online survey application: https://surveys.ufs.ac.za/evasys/online.php?p=HONRS
• Applicants who did not obtain their undergraduate degree at the University of the Free State must email their academic records in PDF format to [email protected] with the email subject “Application for UFS Honours Funding” and UFS student number.
• Applicants who obtained their undergraduate degrees at the University of the Free State must not email their academic records. The Centre for Graduate Support will access their academic records from the University. Therefore, they must only complete the online survey application.
