Interested in becoming a Nurse? The Western Cape College of Nursing Online Applications
Portal for Applicants 2023 is now open. If you are passionate about helping people and
are interested in working in the health sector, then a career in Nursing is the right fit for you.
A qualification in Nursing will offer you endless possibilities from working in the local health

abroad.

Here are three easy steps that will allow you to process your application.
You will be required, to first check if you qualify for admission, and that you have the necessary documents ready to upload during the application process.

Required Document

The following certified documents are required for the online application process:
  • Identity document
  • Marriage Certificate (if applicable)
  • National Senior Certificate, no statement of results will be accepted. Applicants currently in Grade 12, must submit marks obtained at the end of Grade 11 together with their most recent Grade 12 marks.
  • If you are upgrading your marks submit proof from Western Cape Education Department
  • If you are a qualified nurse submit a certificate of registration (SANC), SANC Annual Practicing certificate.
  • Proof of payment (Application fee R150). Application fee payment should be made on the below banking details:
    • Account Name: Department of Health
    • Bank Name: NEDBANK
    • Branch Number: 145209
    • Account Number: 1452054975
    • Deposit Reference: WCCN Surname & ID.

NB: If you attended any higher education institution, an original Academic Record and a Certificate of Conduct will be verified by the institution (Please bring with, to be verified during the interview process). certificates/diplomas/degrees obtained previously, in a case where the name on the National Senior Certificate or equivalent qualification differs from the name of the national identity document and on the application form, evidence needs to
be included to verify the difference. The same applies when the ID number differs.

Online Application Process

The Bachelor of Nursing & Midwifery (R174)

is a four year programme where for the duration of the course, you will gain practical experience at hospitals and various clinical facilities.
Prospective Candidates need to comply with the following Minimum Admission

Requirements:

Matriculants from 2008 (Compulsory Subjects) and minimum rating scale:
• First Additional language: English code 4
• Home Language code 4
• Mathematics code 4 or
• Mathematical Literacy code 5
• Life Science code 4 or Physical Science code 4
• Minimum total APS score of 27
• Minimum matriculation National Senior Certificate with Bachelor endorsement.

Matriculants (Prior 2008):
• English HG/D or SG/C
• First Additional Language HG/D or SG/C
• Mathematics HG/D or SG/C
• Biology HG/D or SG/C
• Physical Science HG/D or SG/D

Matric Exemption
Upon successful completion of training you will be registered
with the South African Nursing Council in the category
Professional Nurse and Midwife.
Programme available at Metro Campus (Athlone)

The Diploma in General Nursing (R171)

is a three year programme, leading to registration with South African Nursing Council as a General Nurse. The programme consists of a theory and clinical component which must
be completed in each academic year.
Prospective Candidates need to comply with the following Minimum Admission

Requirements:
Matriculants from 2008 (Compulsory Subjects) and minimum rating scale:
• First Additional language :English code 4
• Home Language code 4
• Mathematics code 3 or
• Mathematical Literacy code 4
• Life Science code 4 or Physical Science 4
• Minimum total score of 24
• Minimum matriculation endorsement/Diploma

Matriculants (Prior 2008) The successful candidate would have:
• English HG/D or SG/C
• First Additional Language HG/D or SG/C
• Mathematics HG/D or SG/C
• Biology HG/D or SG/C
• Physical Science HG/D or SG/D

Matric Exemption
Upon successful completion of training you will be
registered with the South African Nursing Council in the
category Professional Nurse and Midwife.

The minimum acceptable Admission Point score is 25.
This is calculated by adding up the top six subjects on the grade 12 certificate.
Life Orientation is not included.

e.g. English 72% = 7.2 points.

All campuses of WCCN offer accommodation. Students that will not be considered if reside within 50 km from the campus. No student shall be allocated accommodation before paying deposit for resident’s fee or providing proof that she has been allocated bursary.

STUDENT FINANCIAL AID

Students are to finance their studies at the Western Cape College of Nursing, as there is currently no financial aid available to students. We do however, accept bursaries, please visit healthsciencecolleges.co.za for more information regarding the Health Bursary
