Why R350 Grants Not Available At Post Offices

Todays latest SASSA News – Sassa has announced that recipients of the R350 Social Relief of Distress grant will no longer be able to collect their grant payments from the South African Post Office. The Sassa spokesperson has explained why the R350 grants are no longer available at Post Offices.

In a recent statement the South African Post Office has announced that it will no longer be distributing R350 Social Relief of Distress (SRD) grants from the South African Social Security Agency (Sassa).

Spokesperson for Sassa, Paseka Letsatsi spoke to eNCA stating that the Post Office is experiencing administrative and financial challenges which may have lead to their decision to stop paying out R350 grants at their branches across the country.

Letsatsi says that this will affect those beneficiaries living in rural areas, but that this change may be beneficial to them because they won’t have to travel far into town to collect their grants from the Post Office as there are alternative methods to collect the R350 grant.

The Sassa spokesperson made the suggestion to beneficiaries to make use of the stores who distribute this grant:

We are simply saying please use USave, Checkers, Pick n pay or you can use Boxer stores [to collect the R350 grant].

Beneficiaries of the SRD grant have been encouraged not to visit any Post Office branch to try to collect their grant payments.

Letsatsi has also encouraged beneficiaries to make use of their Sassa cards as they will not have to pay any additional costs should they swipe their cards at the supermarkets stated above.

Those without Sassa cards are able to withdraw their grant from supermarkets by using their phone number. Beneficiaries can also change their phone numbers on the Sassa website.

The spokesperson says that this is an opportunity for grant recipients to make use of all the infrastructure available to them to collect their grant payments.

Sassa grant recipients who receive old age, disability, or child grants can still collect their grants from any Post Office branch.
